Spatial Nomad II / Folding
2024
tibetan yak-hair tent fabric, yak hair rope, collected soils, ceramic toggle button

The spatial transitions of nomadic living are enacted through the folding and unfolding of black yak-hair tents, functioning as a mechanism of spatial compression and expansion.

Drawing from this logic, I create foldable, portable paintings by applying soils collected in Zoige onto worn black yak-hair tent fabric. The marks that emerge are not drawn, but produced through time and repeated handling—folding, storage, and movement—allowing the surface to operate as a material record of use rather than as image.

Each work incorporates a ceramic toggle button made from the corresponding soil, securing the fabric when folded.
